Migraine Headache DiagnosticsWe are often asked whether we successfully treat "migraine headaches". The answer is unquestionably, "yes". We know what you’re going through.Duration and Severity
The diagnosis of migraine headaches is based primarily on characteristics such as its severity (moderate to severe), duration (4 to 72 hours), whether it is aggravated by normal physical activity, and whether it is accompanied by other symptoms such as nausea. There must not be any evidence of organic disease.Click on the adjacent photo of our young patient, who had a 20 year history of migraine pain, to learn about her symptoms and treatment. Migraine AuraMigraine Without Aura (formerly known as "Common Migraine") and Migraine With Aura (formerly known as "Classical Migraine") are similar except for visual changes such as the appearance of wavy lines in the visual field prior to onset of headaches in people who experience auras. The term Migraine therefore actually refers to a category of headaches which is principally based on words. Migraines are not based on blood tests, x-rays, MRI's or other similar tests. Migraine TriggersIn many cases, migraines can be triggered by bright lights, or foods such as red wine, aged cheese, chocolate, etc. If this is the case, avoidance of these triggers can be very helpful. In many other cases the triggering mechanism can be an injured or otherwise dysfunctional muscle, tendon, ligament, or joint. Our goal is to locate, isolate the existence of known triggers and treat these problem areas, thereby resolving headaches, whether or not they are called migraines. Pain resolution is achieved in over 90% of our cases.... assuming there are no neurological conditions such as a brain tumor (a rare cause of headaches) or other type of lesion. Healing vs MaskingAs with all our patients, our goal for those who suffer from migraines is to bring about healing to the maximum extent possible rather than masking the cause with drugs. In this way, we have been able to eliminate migraines without side effects for well over 30 years. For more information visit www.headaches.com
